Abusing Draft Rankings 2022

A few years ago I began to notice that the draft rooms on sites like ESPN and Yahoo used drastically different in-draft rankings.

Because these rankings were the default order of players to appear in drafts, they had a heavy influence on ADP and when players were taken. Since that was the case, I figured it would be useful to know which players in draft rooms were being shown too early or too late in comparison to expert rankings in an effort to find value.

I created these sheets, which can be accessed below, as a way to visualize the differences in draft rankings to FantasyPros rankings. DSTs and Kickers have been removed from the sheets to better show value in skill position players.

These sheets compare the FantasyPros ADP and Expert Consensus Rankings (ECR) to the draft rankings of ESPN, Sleeper, Yahoo and CBS that you may find in their respective draft rooms, they are then split up between Standard, .5 PPR, and PPR scoring.

Feel free to make a copy of these sheets to view and sort at your pleasure!

I’ve also written up a few of my favorite draft room values if you’re curious.

Good luck and happy drafting!

  1. Hi Kyle, this is a great approach for those of us in “home leagues” with friends, family, co-workers. I’ve thought about scouting out the draft room rankings many times over the years. My league has been on CBS over 20 years, and we typically use their draft room so it’s not necessary for me as commish to have to manually enter nearly 200 players after a draft. That might change this year as we look to try out new platforms like Sleeper that are free, just for the draft, and run a shadow leage.

Two questions: 1) How often does this get updated, because I’m noticing this morning in my CBS draft room that the rankings are not all that close, such as McCaffery being listed 14th overall vs 3rd in your file? 2) How does one export out these rankings from the draft rooms?
