Do you drop them or do you hold on to them? Should you fear their drop in usage? I’ll help you answer those! Every week I’ll be highlighting some players who are either losing opportunity on offense or underperforming and are now droppable in your leagues.
This can be used as a helpful way to decide on some players you can drop to waivers for the hot new items on the market. Maybe you’re on the fence about a bench player and seeing his name on this list will help you make that final decision!
I will only mention players with over 35% ownership in ESPN leagues because you can’t drop who you don’t have.
Let’s do this!
Phillip Lindsay – 72% Ownership
Bleh. Melvin Gordon continues to manage the bulk of Denver’s already small RB opportunities while Lindsay just sits around. Lindsay was on the field for just 30% of offensive snaps and had just four rushes for two yards. This backfield is struggling entirely and if I need to make a roster move I’m dropping the player who is getting the least opportunities, that man happens to be Lindsay.
Joshua Kelley – 55.3% Ownership
It’s clear this team does not want to use Joshua Kelley. With injuries to Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson, the Chargers continue to rely on Kalen Ballage instead of Kelley. Kelley was on the field for just 27% of LA’s offensive snaps compared to Ballage’s 73%. I don’t see myself owning any more shares of Kelley, he can be dropped.
James White – 42.3% Ownership
Who is this dude? James White is averaging 7.5 PPR points per game while only being involved in the passing game. I’m not sure if this is news or not but the Patriots have become a run-heavy offense with Cam Newton at QB. White scored 15.3 PPR points in week 6 after the New England bye but has since only scored a high of 6.4. He’s consistently on the field for less than 50% of snaps and just isn’t being utilized in this offense. Save yourself from accidentally starting him, he’s safe to drop.
AJ Green – 72.7% Ownership
A drop zone returnee! Those two weeks against the Colts and the Browns threw me for a twist when he put up 15+ fantasy points. In the two games since, he’s been rough. Green has a combined 3.9 PPR points in the past two games but that’s because of the giant 0 he put up against the Steelers this past week. He also finds himself fourth on the team in targets for the second game in a row. Initially, Green was dominating this team in targets. As of late, however, it seems Joe Burrow has been favoring Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins quite a bit more. I’m comfortable with Green on the wire.
Other guys I’m dropping
Drew Brees – Injury will keep him out for a few weeks.
Tim Patrick – Drew Lock is injured, Jerry Jeudy & KJ Hamler commanding targets
Mike Gesicki – He’s just not the guy
Adrian Peterson – It’s D’Andre Swift szn!!!
