Do you drop them or do you hold on to them? Should you fear their drop in usage? I’ll help you answer those! Every week I’ll be highlighting some players who are either losing opportunity on offense or underperforming based on their ownership percentage.
This can be used as a helpful way to decide on some players you can drop to waivers for the hot new items on the market. Maybe you’re on the fence about a bench player and seeing his name on this list will help you make that final decision!
I will only mention players with over 35% ownership in ESPN leagues because you can’t drop who you don’t have.
Let’s do this!
Marquise Brown – 77.5% Ownership
I’m not dropping Marquise Brown, but I’m prepared to. Lamar Jackson has been just alright passing the ball this season and Brown is suffering from it. He hasn’t surpassed 10 fantasy points since week 5 and just gave owners a solid zero this past week. I’m not dropping him yet as the schedule is really good after this weeks game against PIT, this is more to put a spotlight on Brown.
Jared Cook – 70% Ownership
The tight end position has been awful this season and Jared Cook isn’t helping. 4.6 total PPR points in the past three weeks is not helpful, at all. Taysom Hill at QB (I promised myself no Taysom/TE jokes) doesn’t spell well for Cook moving forward. Just one target against ATL after a zero-point game against SF the week before is not fun and deserves a drop. Save yourself in these important weeks heading into playoffs.
TY Hilton – 46.9% Ownership
TY Hilton sort of falls in the same category as Marquise Brown. He’s been rough but sees a much lighter schedule moving forward. This is more to say that if you need to drop someone, Hilton is an option. He hasn’t had double-digit fantasy points since week 5 and has yet to find the end zone this season. Hilton is a fine drop and you won’t miss out, but isn’t a bad hold if there’s nothing on the wire.
Mark Ingram II – 42.6% Ownership
This is no longer Mark Ingram’s backfield. Was it ever? Maybe, but he’s definitely lost it now. He was on the field for just 9% of snaps for just two carries against TEN. Then you add in the fact that he’s out this week against PIT for Covid and you get a major drop candidate. JK Dobbins is now going to run this backfield, after this week, after a super solid outing himself against TEN. Also, if Gus Edwards is on waivers, you should definitely drop Ingram for him since he’ll be the sole RB in BAL this week.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling – 36% Ownership
Well that was fun, wasn’t it? Marquez Valdes-Scantling had 44.2 points between weeks 9-10 then had just 6.5 points against IND this past week. Moving forward, both Davante Adams and Allen Lazard are now healthy which means MVS is now the WR3 in GB and belongs on the wire. There are absolutely better WR options on the wire – like Michael Pittman, Jalen Reagor and Tim Patrick.
Other guys I’m dropping
Henry Ruggs – This man hasn’t seen five targets since week 1, you’re not starting him.
Michael Gallup – Fourth on the team in targets. Oof.
