Well, it’s time. It’s time to drop that player you drafted or picked up waivers thinking he’d be the guy. It’s been a few weeks now and you need a solid bench player that is actually seeing opportunities in games.
Shake off the dead weight and make the most of your bench. Do you drop them or do you hold on to them? Is their usage dropping as the weeks go on? Every week I’ll be highlighting some players who are either losing opportunities on offense or are underperforming based on their roster percentage.
This can be used as a helpful way to decide on some players you can drop to waivers for the hot new items on the market. Maybe you’re on the fence about a bench player and seeing his name on this list will help you make that final decision!
I will only mention players with over 35% roster percentage because you can’t drop who you don’t have.
Let’s do this!
Nyheim Hines – 51% Roster Percentage
It’s the Jonathan Taylor show in Indy! Nyheim Hines has been an absolute afterthought in this backfield as he slowly loses snaps. From being on the field for 45% of snaps three weeks ago to just 19% this past week. Add in that he’s had just four touches in the past two weeks and he’s not helping your team out. It’s tough to drop an RB this late in the season, but Hines’ usage is being heavily shifted to Taylor.
Chuba Hubbard – 40%
It no longer looks like Hubbard is the main man behind Christian McCaffrey this season, that role looks to be Ameer Abdullah’s. Not only are these two backs entirely dependent on a McCaffrey injury, but Hubbard isn’t the one to hold any longer. You can safely drop him, and if you need McCaffrey’s backup you can pick up Abdullah.
Mecole Hardman – 36.5%
There is not a case that I see in which Mecole Hardman becomes fantasy relevant this season. None. He is rapidly falling off in snaps and targets, while Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce are the only Kansas City receiving options that ever get consistent opportunities. Drop Hardman.
Jared Cook – 54.3%
Jared Cook was mentioned in this article last week and his 5.8 point PPR performance this week helped prove my case. The younger TE on the team, Donald Parham, matched Cook’s targets this past week and I expect that to be the case moving forward. Cook is no longer a startable fantasy asset and I don’t believe you should be rostering more than one TE in redraft leagues. Cook can be dropped.
