Welcome to this week’s Drop Zone! Where I highlight a few players that I’m comfortable dropping this week for waiver pickups.
You’ll notice that all three players mentioned are WRs, and that’s partially on purpose. Heading into the end of the season I believe you should be stocking up on RBs in the off chance that something happens to a starting RB and you beat the waivers. Guys like Alexander Mattison and Jamaal Williams are perfect examples, even Sony Michel. I believe it’s time to drop WRs you’re not confident in starting and should pick up potential starting RBs.
This can be used as a helpful way to decide on some players you can drop to waivers for the hot new items on the market. Maybe you’re on the fence about a bench player and seeing his name on this list will help you make that final decision!
I will only mention players with over 35% roster percentage because you can’t drop who you don’t have.
Let’s do this!
Courtland Sutton – 79.5% Roster Percentage
The Denver Broncos WRs have been… rough. Jerry Jeudy has been the only fantasy-relevant WR on this team and even he is a fringe starting WR for your leagues. Sutton has seen a max of six targets since Week 6, and that was this past week where he only had 3.5 fantasy points. It was a fun first seven weeks of the season when he was getting 10+ targets and scoring 20+ fantasy points! But now he’s not even craking 5 points a game and it’s not fun. I’m fine dropping Sutton as his rest of season schedule is not great.
Marvin Jones Jr. – 67.6%
I personally do not trust this Jaguars passing offense in fantasy, especially not for playoffs. The only thing keeping me slightly interested in holding on to Jones Jr. is the fantasy-friendly schedule moving forward. Since the Jaguars bye week in week 7, Jones Jr. hasn’t had a double-digit fantasy game, and that’s concerning. We could also mention the growing usage of Laquon Treadwell (Why, Urban??) and the overall poor passing performance for the team. I think if Jones Jr. is your WR5 and you have several better options ahead of him, you can safely drop him.
Rashod Bateman – 38.1%
This one is upsetting. Along with a large percentage of the fantasy community, I was also excited for Bateman’s potential this season. He looked GREAT in his first few games back from injury, and still does! He just isn’t seeing the targets to keep him fantasy relevant. The return of Sammy Watkins and the re-commitment to running the ball has pushed Bateman out of the fantasy conversation. I don’t think he’ll post another zero-point fantasy performance this season but I don’t think he’ll be someone I can confidently start for playoffs.
