The Drop Zone – Week 5 Droppable Players

You have to make the big decision to sign someone new on waivers this week, but picking someone up means you have to drop someone you currently own. It’s a decision that needs to be made every week.

Shake off the dead weight and make the most of your bench. Do you drop them or do you hold on to them? Is their usage dropping as the weeks go on? Every week I’ll be highlighting some players who are either losing opportunity on offense or underperforming based on their roster percentage.

This can be used as a helpful way to decide on some players you can drop to waivers for the hot new items on the market. Maybe you’re on the fence about a bench player and seeing his name on this list will help you make that final decision!

I will only mention players with over 35% roster percentage because you can’t drop who you don’t have.

Let’s do this!

Robert Tonyan – 77.5% Roster Percentage

This one hurts. I was personally hoping for Tonyan to be the guy he was last season, but it’s apparent that he is not the guy to own this year. He had a season-high 7 targets this past week but only turned that into 2 receptions for 8 yards. That’s it. His 14.2 point game in week two kept him on our rosters but he has yet to score more than 3 points in a single game. It’s odd to say, but there are better options available on the wire (I’d take Dawson Knox or Dalton Schultz).

Mecole Hardman – 48.5%

I’m not sold. I never have been. The WR2 (or the third passing option behind Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce) has been super hit or miss since Patrick Mahomes took over. You’ll get the two or three weeks of 20+ games, but good luck knowing which games that will be. Hardman is a tricky guy to own as he’s not completely missing from this offense, but he’s not a centerpiece. He was on the field for 52% of offensive snaps for KC, behind both Tyreek Hill (84%) and Demarcus Robinson (67%). In the coming weeks, we’ll also somehow see Josh Gordon enter this offense and I don’t see Hardman having a consistent role. He can safely be dropped.

Drop Zone Returnees – Players I am STILL dropping

Ronald Jones He scored! But still didn’t hit double-digit fantasy points.

Houston RBs – You don’t need any of these players. None of them are playing consistently enough to start.
