Do you drop them or do you hold on to them? Should you fear their drop in usage? I’ll help you answer those! Every week I’ll be highlighting some players who are either losing opportunity on offense or underperforming based on their ownership percentage.
This can be used as a helpful way to decide on some players you can drop to waivers for the hot new items on the market. Maybe you’re on the fence about a bench player and seeing his name on this list will help you make that final decision!
I will only mention players with over 35% ownership in ESPN leagues because you can’t drop who you don’t have. I’ll also give my verdict on whether he’s a drop or a hold depending on if his drop in production may have other factors to it! All players are analyzed by their offensive snap% and their targets/touches week-to-week.
Let’s do this!
Jerick McKinnon – 83.6% Ownership
What a stinky week for San Francisco. A bogus loss to the Miami Dolphins of 43-17 and the return of Raheem Mostert seemed to throw away any game usage of McKinnon. Just three touches and being on the field for 25% of snaps isn’t something you want to see from a guy who most thought earned more playing time while Mostert was out.
Verdict: I’d hold. I blame his lack of usage on super poor game script but it’s not a good look.
AJ Green – 78.9% Ownership
Okay, this is officially the week to drop AJ Green. There was sooooo much potential in the first two weeks with all the targets he was getting but it’s been a steep downhill since. Green left the game early with a hamstring injury that could hold him out for some time. Usage alone, however, it’s not looking good going forward.
Verdict: Green gets the official stamp of droppable. He was on my potential drop list last week but the single target and hamstring injury is the perfect combo for a waiver WR.
Malcolm Brown – 50.6% Ownership
Malcolm Brown is a trip. The 10 PPR points he had last week are going to prevent people from dropping him, but don’t be fooled. With the return of Cam Akers in this backfield tanked Brown’s snap% down to 38% and only eight carries. He’s a TD dependent back in a backfield that is using three different guys.
Verdict: Drop this dude, you’ll be fine without him.
Hunter Renfrow – 37.3% Ownership
One target, 35% of snaps, and a bye week next week. I think that’s all that needs to be said.
Verdict: Unless you’re desperate, Renfrow can be dropped.
