The Drop Zone – Week 6 Droppable Players

You have to make the big decision to sign someone new on waivers this week, but picking someone up means you have to drop someone you currently own. It’s a decision that needs to be made every week.

Shake off the dead weight and make the most of your bench. Do you drop them or do you hold on to them? Is their usage dropping as the weeks go on? Every week I’ll be highlighting some players who are either losing opportunity on offense or underperforming based on their roster percentage.

This can be used as a helpful way to decide on some players you can drop to waivers for the hot new items on the market. Maybe you’re on the fence about a bench player and seeing his name on this list will help you make that final decision!

I will only mention players with over 35% roster percentage because you can’t drop who you don’t have.

Let’s do this!

Kenyan Drake – 72.4% Roster Percentage

Kenyan Drake isn’t even the RB2 on his own team. If Josh Jacobs misses a game, it’s Peyton Barber’s role. I’m still so confused by this signing and things may change now that Jon Gruden is out of town (thankfully), but I’m not very optimistic. The only upside Drake has moving forward is if he is traded to another team, but I hate banking on that option in a game where every week matters. You can try to dump Drake off to the Jacobs owner, but expect a bottom of the barrel return. I’m dropping him if I need to.

Trey Sermon – 59.1%

This is not Trey Sermon’s backfield, and I don’t expect it to be in the near future. With Elijah Mitchell returning from his injury and to a full workload, Sermon’s usage depleted and he was on the field for just 3% of offensive snaps. If you can afford to hold him, not only through low usage but also through a bye week, go for it! But if you need to make a roster move this week, you can consider dropping Sermon safely.

Curtis Samuel – 50.8%

I’m not sold that Curtis Samuel has a big role in this Washington offense. Add in the fact that he re-aggravated his groin injury and I don’t have much confidence for the rest of the season. In his first week back from IR against the Falcons in week 4, Samuel was on the field for just 37% of snaps, then got re-injured this past week against the Saints. Currently he’s listed as week-to-week and the Football Team seems to be approaching his injury with extreme caution. He could be out this coming week and potentially more but I don’t see you throwing him into your lineup any time soon. I’m personally dropping Samuel (after holding him for so long, AGH!) for some players who will make an immediate impact on my teams.

Drop Zone Returnees – Players I am STILL dropping

Robert Tonyan – He’s scored a total of 6.2 points in the last three weeks combined. He is hurting your team.

Ronald Jones – He hasn’t seen more than 20% of offensive snaps since week 2 and has yet to score double digit fantasy points. Stop holding on to him.

Houston RBs – Drop them all.
