The NFL Draft is once again upon us and everybody has their thoughts on who is going where, which teams are moving up or down and which players will be most impactful on which teams. I decided it was time to do a mock draft based on what the Twitterverse is talking about.
Through collecting Tweets that mentioned the term “NFL Draft” and separating those Tweets by every NFL team, I put together an NFL mock draft based on the most mentioned incoming NFL rookie and which team they were mentioned with the most. Going team by team in the 2019 NFL Draft order I selected the most mentioned player that wasn’t mentioned before them, as that player was “selected” by earlier teams. There were a few hiccups since teams such as the Raiders with three first round picks had a lot of top-ten players mentioned which made it trickier to sift through for their later picks in the first round, but I did it! This mock draft doesn’t include any trades, so Twitter sadly doesn’t believe in teams moving up or down the Draft Board.
Some key picks to point out:
Pick 1 – Arizona Cardinals – QB Kyler Murray
Will they or won’t they? What will they do with Rosen? All #DraftSzn the talk has all been about the number one pick, but when isn’t it? Arizona currently holds the coveted number one overall pick and it’s been a complete roller coaster for who it’ll be. Everybody has their guesses and some claim to have sources, but we never truly know until the time has come. That being said, Twitter has the Oakland Athletic Kyler Murray going number one overall to the Arizona Cardinals. If this is true, We can all but guarantee that Josh Rosen gets traded elsewhere, but to who?
Pick 12 – Green Bay Packers – TE Noah Fant
I guess the Packers are running a two TE system this year? As Jimmy Graham is still on the Green Bay roster it’s hard to see Fant as the top choice for the team in this years draft. Does Twitter enjoy two tight end systems or do they just hate Jimmy Graham now?
Pick 17 – New York Giants – WR DK Metcalf
Twitter made predicting the Giants’ picks a bit difficult. By selecting the second most mentioned player associated with the Giants for this pick they would’ve ended up with QB Daniel Jones, their second QB of the first round, but I had to step in to make it a bit more realistic and gave the team their next available player. This was DK Metcalf, the 2019 NFL Combine superstar. After this offseason I truly wouldn’t put it past the Giants to draft two QBs since their management is playing checkers while the whole league is playing chess, or maybe they’ll draft zero QBs and ride the Eli train for another 10 years.
Pick 19 – Tennessee Titans – RB Josh Jacobs
The Tennessee Titans, home of 2018 breakout RB1 Derrick Henry, draft the first and only RB in the first round? Are we serious, Twitter? Maybe the world wants to see two Alabama RBs in the same backfield but I just can’t agree with this one.
